It enjoys outstanding views over the north Shropshire countryside. Historic Whitchurch (1 mile) offers a good array of shops, restaurants and pubs and has a wide variety of activities for tourists from golfing, parachuting, fishing, narrow boats on the canal system and even a rally school! Walkers will enjoy the Sandstone Trail and Hawkstone Park and follies is a worthwhile day trip. The splendid city of Chester (about 45 minutes away) is awash with atmosphere and has plenty of sights for the visitor to take in, as well as restaurants. Encircled by 2 miles of Roman and medieval walls, the city has a wealth of Tudor and Victorian buildings - the most unusual being the unique `Rows' which are galleried arcades set above ground floor shops. Several festivals are associated with Chester - the Folk Festival in May, Young Musician's Festival in June and Summer Music Festival in July which keep the city alive during the summer months. Shrewsbury, the county town of Shropshire also displays fine Tudor and Jacobean buildings as well as a sandstone castle which forms a dramatic backdrop for the annual World Music Day which takes place in July.
